IB Enrollment/Admissions Policy
General Education Program
All rising juniors who live within the Elgin High School boundaries may elect to enroll in any of the IB subject area courses offered at Elgin based upon interest in the available IB coursework. Students interested in enrolling in the Full Diploma should work with their counselor to ensure the following considerations have been accounted for:
Academy Program
Students who reside outside of the Elgin High School boundaries can apply for admission to the Elgin High School Academy as rising Freshman. Students accepted into the Elgin High School Academy will continue to engage in the traditional honors and Advanced Placement courses offered in their freshman and sophomore years at Elgin. Academy students will also have access to the IB DP course offerings beginning in their junior year.

The U-46 High School Magnet Programs will recruit and support students of diverse backgrounds, intentionally construct and maintain a culturally competent curriculum, and value the unique perspectives and life experiences of all community members so that our students will become leaders capable of engaging in a diverse, global society.
U-46 Magnet Program Goals:
A. Promote a culturally linguistic, inclusive, and safe environment for all to focus on teaching and learning.
B. Deliver a highly engaging and rigorous innovative curriculum aligned with their cognitive capabilities and given opportunities to assess in a variety of formats.
C. Work collaboratively with businesses and the community to enrich the student experience.
D. Sustain high levels of achievement for students enrolled in Magnet programs.
E. Provide exemplary service that supports students’ academic and social-emotional growth.
Policy Review
Elgin High School’s DP Enrollment and Admissions Policy is to be reviewed every other even-numbered year by the EHS IB Committee members, teacher department leadership committees including SIP and SD, building pedagogical leadership team, and parents. Review team members will ensure this policy continues to align with the school mission and uphold the IB standards of practice.

- Students have taken coursework in their freshman or sophomore year to satisfy the Illinois State graduation requirement of a year-long course in United States History.
- Students should have either completed Algebra 2 by the conclusion of their sophomore year or enrolled in Algebra 2 over the summer to ensure appropriate math readiness for IB Math Application and Approaches.
- Students who are interested in engaging in an IB Language Acquisition course, but who have not previously taken World Language courses, should enroll in the ab initio language offerings at the school.

- Students with GPA lower than 2.0 should speak with their counselor prior to applying to any Academy and review any of the available assessments on file for the courses with the counselor.
- 2 letters of recommendation
- Lottery preferences include:
- Sibling: students with a 9th – 11th-grade sibling enrolled in the academy
- Project Access: students who are homeless or in a temporary living situation
- Lottery priorities include:
- Geographic location: students who live within the geographic boundaries of the school (1)
- Program participation: students who participate in identified middle school coursework, extracurricular activities, or community-based programs (1)
- Free or Reduced Lunch: students who receive free or reduced lunch (2)
